1. When is an MRI Required?
While X-rays and CT scans are excellent for bones, MRI is the gold standard for soft tissues.
Common MRI Applications:

2. The MRI Procedure
The MRI scanner uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves. It is entirely painless.
The Clinical Process:
- Preparation: You will remove all metal objects (jewelry, watches) and lie on a comfortable, motorized table.
- The Scan: The table slides into the tube-like scanner. You must remain completely still to ensure the images are not blurry. The machine makes loud tapping or thumping noises, so you will be provided with earplugs or headphones playing music.
- Contrast Dye: Depending on the diagnosis required, a specialized contrast dye (Gadolinium) may be injected into your vein halfway through the scan to highlight certain blood vessels or tissues.

In many countries, waiting for an MRI and the subsequent radiologist report can take weeks. In Turkey, it takes hours.
Post-Procedure:
- Digital Copies: Immediately following your scan, you will receive a digital copy (CD or secure cloud link) of your high-definition MRI images.
- Radiologist Report: A highly trained radiologist will analyze the hundreds of cross-sectional images. Your detailed, written medical report is usually ready within 24 hours.
- Specialist Consultation: If the MRI was ordered as part of a treatment plan, you will have a follow-up consultation with your orthopedist, neurologist, or oncologist to discuss the findings.
