- Donor Assessment: Determining where to extract the grafts. Usually, they are taken from the back of the scalp (which mimics beard hair well) or occasionally from under the jawline if applicable.

- Single-Graft Extraction: Only single-hair follicular units are extracted. Using multi-hair grafts on the face results in an unnatural, ‘pluggy’ look.
